Lahore, June 22: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has strongly condemned an attack by scores of lawyers on renowned lawyer Asma Jahangir’s associates inside a courtroom in the Lahore High Court. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) elected its new office-bearers for a three-year term (2017-2019) here on Sunday. Dr Mehdi Hasan was elected chairperson and Uzma Noorani co-chairperson. The provincial vice-chairpersons were: Habib Tahir (Balochistan), Kamran Arif (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Salima Hashmi (Punjab) and Asad Iqbal Butt (Sindh). Naazish Ata-ullah was elected as treasurer. The HRCP general body nominated Asma Jahangir as spokesperson for the commission. This was announced by Mr. Najam ud Din, Director, HRCP in Lahore on 2nd April 2017 through a press release.
